Certified & Professional Chimney Inspections in Johns Creek, GA

Professional chimney sweeps generally offer an inspection service that meets one of three inspection levels. The NFPA Inspection procedure details for the homeowner and the inspector what parts of the chimney should be inspected under a given set of circumstances. When seeking a chimney inspection in Johns Creek, the homeowner should detail the areas they wish to have inspected and discuss the costs and invasiveness of each level and its methods.

Level 1 Chimney Inspection

A level 1 chimney inspection is generally considered limited to visible areas of the chimney that don’t require tools or ladders. This may be the exterior of the chimney (partially visible from both the inside and outside of the house) as well as the inside of the chimney under some conditions.

Level 2 Chimney Inspection

A level 2 chimney inspection is a more involved inspection that will include all portions of a Level I Inspection, as well as accessible areas of the chimney structure, including areas within accessible attics, basements and crawl spaces. Common hand tools and ladders are generally used, and will include examination of the chimney interior by video scanning or other comparable means of inspection. The inspector should also determine that the flue is properly sized for the appliance venting into it.

Level 3 Chimney Inspection

A level 3 chimney inspection includes all portions level 1 and 2 inspections, as well as examination of non-accessible areas of the chimney structure that are reasonably suspected of containing hazards. Non-accessible areas are those areas that cannot be reached without damage or destruction to the chimney, building or building finish, or areas that would require special tools to reach. Examination of non-accessible areas should be limited to suspect problem areas. In as much as inspection of these non-accessible areas will likely result in damage to the building, the inspector and homeowner should discuss these details beforehand.

7 Benefits of Annual Chimney Inspections

Besides being recommended every year by The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), annual chimney inspections will have the following benefits for homeowners in Johns Creek, Georgia.

  1. Safety: Chimney inspections are vital for identifying potential hazards like blockages, creosote accumulation, and structural problems, thereby preventing chimney fires and carbon monoxide build-up. Additionally, they can spot issues with the flue liner, which plays a crucial role in protecting the house structure from heat and preventing the escape of harmful gases.

  2. Efficiency: Regular inspections ensure that your chimney is functioning efficiently, with optimal airflow that is essential for effective heating and reducing indoor air pollution. Clean and well-maintained chimneys also contribute to better overall energy efficiency in your home, reducing heating costs in the long term.

  3. Preventative Maintenance: Early detection of problems such as cracks, leaks, or deterioration during inspections can save homeowners from costly future repairs. Addressing these issues promptly also prevents them from escalating into more significant hazards that could compromise the entire chimney structure.

  4. Compliance with Standards: Chimney inspections ensure compliance with local fire safety standards and building codes, a crucial factor, especially when selling your home. This compliance is not just about adhering to legal requirements; it also enhances the marketability and value of your property.

  5. Longevity: Regular maintenance and inspections can significantly extend the life of your chimney by preventing major damages that necessitate extensive repairs or rebuilds. This longevity is particularly beneficial, as chimney systems are integral and costly components of a home.

  6. Insurance Purposes: Some home insurance policies require regular chimney inspections, and staying compliant with these inspections can be crucial for maintaining your policy’s validity. This compliance is especially important in cases where chimney-related issues could lead to insurance claims, as insurers may deny claims if maintenance guidelines aren’t followed.

  7. Peace of Mind: Knowing that your chimney is in good condition provides peace of mind, allowing you to enjoy your fireplace without concerns about safety hazards. This peace of mind extends beyond just the use of the fireplace; it’s about knowing that a critical component of your home’s infrastructure is safe and sound.

Overall, chimney inspections are a crucial aspect of home maintenance that ensure the safety, efficiency, and longevity of your chimney system.

Chris Sparks was very knowledgeable and assisted me with buying the correct type of gas fire logs. Pedro, Mario and crew arrived promptly on the scheduled installation date. They did an inspection, replaced my old rusty chimney cap and installed the gas logs in less than an hour. Very happy with their service.

The folks at The Mad Hatter were professional, quick, and communicative. The sales team answered all my questions up front, the install team came prepared for multiple scenarios, and overall, all Mad Hatters were great to work with. The job - replace wood burning gas starter with full gas logs set complete with variable remote + dryer vent cleaning. Day of additions - fix cracked fireplace wall + remove chimney/flue hood. I did not go and get a bunch of quotes since they were so highly recommended to me, but I would suggest doing your research even if you work with them. There are always likely to be day-of things, not a huge deal, but I still wish I was slightly better prepared...Day of my install, they advised that I needed to replace the back fireplace wall. They were already there, had the part, and I don't want to take chances with gas/fire so I had them replace it. However, I could have bought the part myself for around $200 and they charged about $450 for part + install. That's a lot of labor charge for what took them 5 minutes to replace. All that to say, I still said yes 🙂 Overall, though, very pleased and would recommend them to anyone. 5 stars! The fireplace is beautiful!
